Anji Mito Guilty Gear XX Double Butterfly Guide
Guilty Gear Accent Core +R
I made a guide years ago on how to perform a double butterfly in +R. It used to be pinned to my twitter timeline but I blew it away to try to promote my webcomic while I was getting attention during the Strive Season 2 hype (it didn't seem to work). So to make sure I don’t lose it I’m going to post it here to archive it.
One of the things I like about the XX series is that each character is given lots of things to do. Some of them are useful, some of them are overpowered and some of them are just memes. Today I want to talk about one of the memes, the double butterfly.
THREAD
Anji's butterfly has a bug that was left in the game that allows you to input a second butterfly after the first.
When the butterfly transforms, there's one frame where the butterfly disappears. In this frame (1/60 of a sec) the game thinks there's no butterfly on the screen.
Yeah... its not good. It looks cool, but the time you're using doing the second butterfly is time you're not using keeping your opponent locked down as the first butterfly transforms, so your opponent can just jump away or in some cases jump forward and punish.
But because it looks scary, sometimes your opponent will go crazy and burst, hail mary dp, or something else that wastes resources that you can capitalize off of. And sometimes your opponent will be so scared, they'll do nothing and let you do a normal butterfly mixup.
So is it worth it? No.
Is it fun? Yes. Its very fun.
If you want to do the double butterfly, here are some tips to get more consistent.
One, until you get the timing down just do it off of a throw. The throw puts your opponent at the perfect range and it will never change, so you just have to worry about the opponent's wakeup timing.
Two, take advantage of negative edge inputs. In XX, specials trigger on both button press and button release. Doing the second butterfly on button release lowers your downside risk. If you mess up the timing you just do nothing.
Three, if you have 25 meter add FB butterfly to your attempt. By releasing P and D closely together, you give yourself a second attempt. The FB animation also looks scarier, as an added benefit.
